    this compromise helped regulate slavery in the countries western territories by prohibiting the practice in the former Louisiana territory north of the parallel 36'30 north line. Actually lowered tensions for about 30 years but then brought more tension between the North and South.

    This was an armed conflict war between mexico and the United States. The war was mainly because of Texas becoming a independent state. The war ended with the treaty of gualdalupe establishing the rio grande river as the United States border. After that was established Mexico decided to sell the U.S all of their territories on the other sides on the river. It could be a raise for the United States in general. You live in USA so you see the Mexicans being defeated.

    James Wilson was the first person to discover gold in California in 1848. This started to increase the population in the west once people found out there was gold there. This helped the western economy grow but also didn't help the north or south because more people were moving from those regions. The gold rush actually raised the tension between the North and South but helped shape the city

It was to provide a slave owner to seize an escaped slave, present the slave in front of an judge, to receive a ticket to authorize the slave to be retaken. Caused tension to rise in the union. Failed as a part to hold the union together. Northerners thought it was an excuse to do those steps to a escaped slave or person

    is an anti-slavery novel which helped lay the groundwork for the civil war. Basically told us what happened during the times. It was a really true story some of it but had gruesome parts in it. Led to tension for the people that had slaves because a lot believed they were mistreating them.

    This is when Sen. Douglas wanted to divide the territory into the Nebraska territory and the Kansas territory to gain support from the South, he decided slavery could be chosen by the people. First equaled the tensions giving people slave lands and free land. But then the bleeding of kansas hit when people started making two governments while one was for slavery and one was against slavery. At the same time it raised tensions at first but then lowered them.

    When Sumner was addressing copies when Brooks began his attack, striking the southern senator repeatedly with a walking cane. After escaping it still took him 3 years to wait to begin his senator duties again. This signaled the end of an era of compromise and sectional accommodation in the senate, further heightening the discord that culminated in war after eleven southern states seceded from the union. Basically lowed the tensions during the winter of 1860-1861

    Dred Scott vs Sanford
    A case where the slave's owner died so the slave thought he was a free man but his brother in law said otherwise. The laws said he could be free, but others said he was still a slave and couldn't become a free man. The vote ended up keeping Dred Scott a slave because of the fifth amendment. This lowered tensions by supporting slaves to gain confidence for trying to become free like he did in the end.

    The whole point of the raid was to seize US arsenal weapons at Harpers Ferry, Virginia. He also did this to help slaves fight for their freedom. He and his men ending up capturing the arsenal. It raised tensions while the Southerners were furious with him for doing such a thing but the Northerners praise and respected him for what he was doing to try to save slaves.

    he was elected in 1860 and his main goal was to preserve the union. He thought slavery could exist where it was at but couldn't spread or strengthen anymore. Southern states were still concerned about the anti-slavery nature of his party. Few years later south carolina succeeded and so did most of the other southern states. I believed it lowered the tension if he allowed for slavery to make it equal saying that and making it so it doesn't spread anymore

    the Southern States started to succeed because they believed Abraham Lincoln and his republican party were a major threat to the institution to slavery. Leaders in the South wanted to preserve the rights of the states to govern themselves. This led to tension because the Southerners didn't want them to get rid of slavery. They felt it would be better to succeed so they could be able to control each other as one big group.
