  • French and Indian War

    The French and Indian war was between the English colonies and the French. The border between the territories were undecided which ended up causing war. The British wanted more of the Native American's land, but the Indians weren't to happy because the British had not been very nice to them. The colonist were okay with them going to war because it was benefitting them and getting them more land.
  • Treaty of Paris 1763

    The Treaty of Paris 1763 was a document signed stopping the French and Indian War. This treaty said Great Britian will own all of the French's territory in America. Even though Brititan had won the land this war costed A LOT of money. The colonist were very happy that they won.
  • Proclamation 1763

    This act stopped the colonist from going past the Appilation Mountains. The British did this to protect the colonist form any native attacks, but the colonist weren't to thrilled when the goverment made this law. They thought that it was their life and they should be able to do whatever they wanted to do! This was the very first time the colonist felt hostile towards their mother country.
  • Sugar Act

    This was a tax put on sugars to help pay off the debt from the war. The coloniest were very angry because they thought they shouldn't have to pay for this. By this time the colonist were starting to get annoyed with Britian.
  • Stamp act

    This was an act that put taxes on all legal papers to show that they had been payed for. This money was to pay off debt from the war. The colonist were so angry about this that they formed a boycott!
  • Quartering Act

    This was a law that said that the colonist must provide supplies for soliders. This was made because Britian didn't have any money for supplies, so they made the colonist do it for them. Coloniest HATED IT, but they couldn't do anything about it so it stayed.
  • Writs of Assistance

    This was a law that said offical officers could search ships at any point if nessacary. They did this to make sure that no one was stealing or trading illeagally. The colonist thought that this was an invasion of privacy and unnessacary!
  • The Townshend Acts

    This was a tax on various household items. This money was probably for the soliders that were sent over from Britian to protect the settlers. This made the colonist VERY angry and started to boycott... They didn's stop until the goverment was forced to repeal it.
  • Boston Massacre

    This was an incident where the colonist were in the middle of an angry mobs and the soliders were starting to get annoyed. We never will know who shot the first gun, but 8 colonist ended up dead. Sam Adams was the one who called it a massacre, and they ended up finding 2 guilty people and 6 were not guilty.
  • Tea Act

    This is where the goverment ended up taking control over all tea costs. This led to the Boston Tea Party
  • Boston Tea Party

    This is where the Sons of Liberty came together and dumped 90,000 pounds of tea overboard. The British were not to happy when they found out. This led to the intolerable acts.
  • 1st Continental Congress

    The first Continental congress met in 1774 in Philadelphia. The result of this meeting was to ban all trade with Great Britain until all Acts were repealed! Each colony began training troops, but they were not ready to call for independence.
  • Intolerable acts

    This was an act saying they could not hold any more town meetings. This was the last straw for the colonist! The colonist started planning the first continental congress and the colonies began to unify!
  • Lexington

    This was the first battle of the revolution! John Parker and 70 minutemen were waiting, but the British ended up overpowering the mlitiamen. This battle was known for a poem that Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote with the phrase, "shot heard around the world".
  • Concord

    When the British overpowered the colonist in Lexington the British set off to Concord. When they got there they were surprised to see 100's of minutemen waiting to attack! The colonist used a hit and run tatic, and in the end the minutemen overpowered the British and they were forced to retreat.
  • 2nd Continental Congress

    The second continental congress met in Philadelphia again in May. They wrote the Olive Branch petition which was aking Britian to repeal their intolerable acts. Also this is where they made the continental Army with George Washington as you commander and cheif!
  • Bunker Hill

    This battle was when the British marched up Bunker hill to remove the continental army. In this time Americans were very low on gunpowder, so they were told, "don't shoot unless you see the whites of their eyes." The result of this battle was that the colonist were forced to retreat.
  • Commen Sense

    Commen sense was a pamphlet that Thomas Pain wrote to persuade people that we needed independence. He thought that it was stupid that their were getting bossed around by a king who was all the way across the ocean! Also, he believed that Britian wasn't the only place that would trade our goods with.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Thomas Jefferson was chosen to write the document. On July 4, 1776 he had completed most of it. Most of it was based off of John Locke ideas about individual rights that should be protected by the goverment. These were call unalienable rights.
  • Battle of New York

    British wanted to capture New York city. The British attacked Washington's army and caused lots of casualties. Washington retreated to avoid being captured.
  • Battle of Trenton

    On December 25 Washington launched a surprise attack! They captured about 800 hessian prisoners. A hessian was a german soldier hired by british.
  • battle of princeton

    washington captured another 300 soldiers at prineton new jersey. washington ends up losing the battles of brandywine and german town.
  • battle of saratoga

    general horatio surrounded british general burgoyne's remaining forces at saratoga.burgoyne surrendered his whole army. this was a major turning point in the revolutuonary war because they got the french and spain to join forces with the americans because they did not side with the king.
  • winter at valley forge

    washington and his men spent long cold winters at valley forge, this was a very rough time for him because he lost alot of his men due to frost bite and starvation. they were in desperate need of food and warm clothes. marquis de lafayette helped train the continental army. john paul jones was an american naval commander and he steered his burning ship into a british war ship benidict arnold, one of wahingtons best generals, switched sides and joined the british army.
  • battle of yorktown

    british general Cornwallis moved his troops to virginia. Washington made a tap after James Armistead, a double spy, told him imformation. Washington led a threeway attack. Cornwallis surrendered all his troops on October 17, 1781. WE WON OUR INDEPENDENCE!!!!
  • Treaty of Paris

    This was a treaty that stated... Great Britian would recognize the U.S as an independent nation, that the United States would gain all land East of the Mississippi river, and we would return all land taken from the loyalist.
