    Starbucks Coffee Company was founded in Seattle, Washington by three friends who met at the University of San Francisco in the 1960s. The first store sold high-quality coffee beans and equipment by coffee roasting. The company took the name of the chief mate in the book Moby-Dick: Starbuck.

    Howard Schultz, an experienced salesman, joined Starbucks as the Director of Marketing. After trip to Milan, Italy, where noted that coffee bars existed on practically every street, he try to persuade the owners to offer traditional espresso beverages but they refused to roll it out company-wide.

    Schultz decided to leave Starbucks in 1985 and opened a new coffee store called "Il Giornale", he took the name of a Milanese newspaper.
