St Kilda becomes the first place in Melbourne with a Quarantine station.

first Quarantine station in Melbourne for Scottish immigrants and the Melbournian population.

Jan 1, 1841

the land is officially named St Kilda

Apr 24, 1857

St Kilda has now become an independent and separate Municipality

May 13, 1857

railway expansion

railway station and line connected with Melbourne City and loop line to Windsor

Jan 1, 1906

remodelling of St Kilda foreshore

an Italian Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department named Carlo Catani was contracted to remodel and prepare a master plan for the St Kilda foreshore to Point Ormond.

Jul 31, 1987

St Kilda railway line closes, commencement of route 96

St Kilda railway line is closed to then be reopened as the first tram/light rail line (now known as route 96) in Melbourne which commences from the St Kilda railway station and terminating in Fitzroy St. The line reopened on the 21st of November 1987.

Jan 1, 1993

clean up of streets

1993 the mayor of St Kilda was Tim Costello and worked closely with local social welfare groups at the time. The groups helped clean up the streets of St Kilda. at this time as well, prostitution was now legalised. However, violence started to become a big issue in St Kilda. Heavy police precedes after late hours.
