SS timeline for WW2

By Elle B.
  • Stock market crash and beginning of Great Depression

The stock market crash greatly affected the United States. Many investors bought stock and much of that stock became worthless. Most of the banks in the country failed and many people became unemployed.
  • Hitler becomes Chancellor of Germany

This is an important event because it signified Hitler's rise to power. Without becoming chancellor Hitler would not have been able to do many of the horrible things that he did during WW2. Without becoming Chancellor Hitler would never have been able to take control of the Government of Germany.
  • Hitler gains complete control over the Government

Hitler coming in to control is one of the major reasons WW2 happened. Without coming into complete control of Germany Hitler would have had less access to military power meaning the war may not have happened at all, or it would have been much less severe.
  • Hitler sends troops to Rhineland

This was an important event in WW2 because it was one of the first times the Treaty of Versaille was broken. This marked a turning point in the war because other countries did not try and stop him before but now they realized they might have to.

  • Battle of Stalingrad ends

The end of the Battle of Stalingrad marked the end of the German offensive against the Soviet Union. After the battle of Stalingrad, the Germans were fighting a defensive war against the Soviet Union. This was also the first major battle the Germans lost.
  • D-Day

This is when the allies successfully invaded Europe, this meant the Germans had to fight the Soviets in the East and the Allies to the West.
  • VE day

This is the day that the Germans surrendered and it marked the end of the war in Europe.
