During the 1930's, the first attempt at NATA was planned but shortly ended up failing due to WW2 as more effort tended towards the war and its soldiers (Bellin Health, 2019). Luckily, it was brought up and re-later established in 1950's and it has not looked back since.

NATA, or National Athletic Trainer’s Association was established in Kansas City, Missouri, in order to develop the athletic training profession. It has obtained over nearly 40,000 members and 11 districts.

Upon the addition for athletic curriculum, those who aspire to pursue a career in athletic training and obtain certification must pass the BOC (Board of Certification).

In 1990, AMA, American Medical Association, had recognized athletic training to be an allied health profession. In an article from, 'AccessPhysiology', "...in the same context as other allied health care professions and to be held to similar professional and educational expectations, as well as to allow for the accreditation of educational programs (The Process Leading to CAATE Accreditation of the Athletic Trainer as an Allied Health Care Professional, n.d.).

In 1997, the NATA Education Council was established. NATA Education Council had made sure that these capabilities should be taught during the program, such as: evidence-based practice, prevention and health promotion, clinical examination and diagnosis, acute care of injury and illness, therapeutic interventions, psychosocial intervention and referral health care administration, professional development and responsibilities (Bellin Health, 2019).
