    Sports medicine became officially established in Dresden, Germany.
  • First congress

    Oberhof, Germany holds the first scientific investigation in physical exercises and sports medicine.
  • Sportartz

    Arthur Mallwitz coined the term sports physician and "sportatz".
  • EEG (1920's)

    The EEG was invented around this time to help improve diagnoses for therapy patients
  • France makes the first journal

    France publishes the first ever sports medical journal in the world.
  • IFSM

    This is when the official International Federation of Sports Medicine was founded in Saint Moritz, Switzerland.
  • NATA

    The National Athletic Trainer's Association is founded in Kanas City, Missouri
  • ACSM

    The American College Sports Medical was established by physicians and health educators to recognize unhealthy lifestyles and other health problems
  • Athletic Trainer Certificates

    The NATA gets professional help to score and develop the athletic trainer certification examination.
  • CT scans

    Computed Tomography scans were invented at this time to help treat injuries all over the body. Such things like muscles, bones, organs, and blood vessels.
  • CEA's are held

    The certification examination administrations are held in 4 cities. 24 candidates took the examination in Baltimore.
  • First female tester

    The first woman to take the examination moves to the second national examination. also during this time, (70's) 1600 athlete trainers recive their certificates.

    The National Commission for Health Certifying Agencies was founded around this time to help maintain and ensure the proper tests, phsycochemtric, and legal principles.
  • 1980's

    5600 athlete trainers receive their certificates.
  • MRI scans

    Magnetic Resonance Imaging was invented to help care for the body. Specifically the brain, spinal cord, bones/joints, and the breasts.
  • ISSA

    The International Sports Science Association is established and is now currently located in Phoenix, Arizona.
  • NATABOC

    15,000 athletic trainers are now certified.
