Brown V Board of Education
This was a case that fought for desegregation in the public school system, all across the US. Separate but equal was considered unconstitutional. First Center for Independent Living Opens
Ed Roberts at UC Berkley, created this center to allow those individuals with disabilities, to live independently. Section 504
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, allowed children with special needs and disabilities to be protected from discrimination. If a student has either a physical or mental disability that effects their learning experience, then that are eligible for a 504 plan. The Family Educational rights and Privacy Act
The FERPA act allowed parents to have access to their child's personal information that is collected, maintained or used by the school district. Handicapped Children's Protection Act

Americans with Disabilities Act
The ADA, which was signed by George W. Bush, promises people with special needs, that they will have equal rights just like everyone else. This does include both work and school. Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
IDEA, which was signed by George W. Bush, made free public education available to eligible children with disabilities throughout the US. No Child Left Behind Act
The No Child Left Behind Act states that all students should be proficient in math and reading by 2014. It had some states asking not to be part of it. Some school were caught sending in false scores, while other schools took it seriously.

Assistive Technology Act
This act was created to promote awareness and access to assistive technology. It wanted to provide children with disabilities an independent way of learning.
