    This act helped states receive money to better provide opportunities for those students who are considered disadvantaged, including those with disabilities.
  • Mills vs. the Board of Education

    Mills vs. the Board of Education
    This Supreme Court Case helped make it unconstitutional for schools and educators to turn down education for students with disabilities. Students with disabilities are supposed to be given equal access to education.
  • Education Amendment

    Education Amendment
    Also known as Title IX, this act was enacted to prohibit the discrimination and mistreatment on the basis of sex in education that were getting federal aide.
  • Education of the Handicapped Act

    Education of the Handicapped Act
    This act was signed into law to provide state grants for better programs for students with disabilities. This act also helped teachers receive better training with special education by schools receiving federal government money.
  • Armstrong vs. Kline

    Armstrong vs. Kline
    Parents of five students with disabilities noticed how they were regressing during their summer break. The court favored in plaintiffs and decided to extend the school year for those students with disabilities.
  • Handicapped Children's Protection Act

    Handicapped Children's Protection Act
    This act was passed for those parents who won case courses and hearings and gave them the chance to recover attorney fees.
  • Timothy W. vs. Rochester School District

    Timothy W. vs. Rochester School District
    This case was based off a student who was denied special education because the school felt like his disability was 'too severe.' They ruled that under the Education for All Handicapped Children Act, a school cannot turn down education to any student no matter how severe their disability. This, in turn, led to the Zero-rejection Policy.

    The IDEA Act was ammended to further include transition services to those who are ready to leave high school and get out of high school.
  • Individuals with Disabilities Act

    This act was divided into 6 main points: Individualized Education Program, Free and Appropriate Public Education, Least Restrictive Environment, Appropriate Evaluation, Parent and Teacher Participation, and Procedural Safeguards. It was enacted to give students their appropriate education based on their needs and FAPE.
  • No Child Left Behind Act

    No Child Left Behind Act
    This act was based on 4 principles: being accountable for results, more choices for parents, better control and flexibility, and using research to figure out what really works.
    It gave each state the right to make their own standards. This act also made standardized testing required. Many people felt very indifferent about this law.
