Spanish Mission Project

  • Mission San Clemente

    Founded: 1632
    Re-established: 1684
Mission San Clemente is known as the first Spanish Mission in Texas. It is known as this even though there were two other missions built on the same location more than 50 years apart. The mission was abandoned due to the presence of hostile Apache Indians.
  • Mission Corpus Christi de la Ysleta

    Founded: 1682
Mission Corpus Christi is now an active Catholic church. This mission is located in El Paso. It was close to a river so it flooded a lot. Due to this, the mission was badly damaged. This mission collapsed due to a fire in 1907.
