    In 1492 Columbus sailed across the Atlantic Ocean in search for a westward water route to Asia. Instead Columbus found Cuba, it was important because it sparked the spanish exploration.

    Cortes Voyage

    Cortes Voyage
    Cortes found the new world and first arrived on the island of Hispaniola at the city of Santo Domingo. Cortes joined Diego Velazquez on an expedition to Cuba. Velazquez became the governor of Cuba, and Cortes also got put in there government by Velazquez. Cortes got really wealthy and gained a lot of power. Cortes got put in charge for an expediton to Mexico. Velazquez wanted to stop Cortes from going because he didn't want Cortes to over power him, but Cortes went anyways.

    Pineda's Voyage
    Pineda commanded a spanish exploration along the Gulf of Mexico. Him and his men where the first to map and explore the gulf. The exploration ended when he met Hernán Cortés who considered him as a rival, and arrested all of his messengers that he sent ashore that were near the Cortés base.

    DeVaca went to search for gold in Florida with the leader Narvez. He was the first to explore in Texas. He discovered the Karankawas, Couhlitecans , and Jumano Indians. He also reported the 7 cities of gold or Cibola. He said that Texas was a good place to be because he was looking for survival.

    DeVaca discovers Texas
    DeVaca shipwrecked on a sandy island off of the coast from Texas. Him and his crew are desperate for food and water. He is the first European to step foot on the soon to be Lone Star state. De Vacas unintentional journey to Texas was a disaster from the start. A series of accidents and attacks from the indians endurred as they explored north Florida.

    Fray Marcos and Esteban Journey
    Fray Marcos and Esteban went to study the land top the north to evaluate. They explored Texas and New Mexico. Told of seeing a city filled with gold and got killed because it was a lie. Conquistador Coronado is sent to find this golden city.

    Coronado's Expedition
    Coronado went to search for the 7 cities of gold. Explored 5 states looking for the seven cities of Cibola and later looking for quivera on the 2nd part of the trip. Explored North Texas and the panhandle. He also explored Arizona, New Mexico, Kansas, and Oklahoma. He discovered the Palo Duro Canyon and the Grand Canyon.
