    Sputnik was the first atirficial satellite launched form Earth. It was launched by the Soviet Union into a low elliptical orbit of Earth. It was made during the Space Race. The Americans spent millions tryingto get a pen that could write oin space. The Russians used a pencil.

  • First Probe on Mars

    The Mars I was the first probe on Mars. It lost contact with mission control after travelling 193 000 km.It was a flyover mission.

  • First Human in Space

    Yuri Garagin was the first man in space. He was Russian and was born in 1938 and died in a fatal plane crash in 1968. He was a Soviet pilot and cosmosnaut. He was an international celebrety.

  • First Woman in Space

    Valentina Tereshkova was the first woman in space and was a Soviet comsonmaut. She was born in 1937 and hasn't died yet.

  • First man on the Moon

    The first man who walked on the Moon, Neil Armstrong, was actually meant to be the second man on the Moon after Adrian ‘Buzz’, but he walked on it first. His famous quote, ‘One small step for man, one giant step for mankind’.

  • First Space Station launched,Skylab

    The Skylab was the first manned space station launched and was made by NASA. It orbited the Earth from 1973-1979.

  • First Orbiter and Lander on Mars

    The Mars 2 was the first orbiter and lander on Mars. It was made by the Soviet Union. The lander crashed on Mars, but the orbiter was successful.

  • First Spacecraft to leave the Solar system

    The first spacecraft to leave the solar system was the Voyager I. It was a space probe launched to study interstellar space. It also did a flyover over Saturn and Jupiter. It got great images of the two planets and their moons.

    The Hubble Space Telescope is the best telescope yet for taking pictures of the expanding universe in ultra-violet, visible and infra-red.

    The Interantional Space Station is the 9th habitable telescope orbiting Earth. It has a maximum crew of 6.
