On October 10th, 1963, the Minnesota State College Board called together all of the communities from southwestern Minnesota. More then 70 representatives from the various communities gathered in St. Paul. These were all people who had spent many hours of time working diligently for their respective communities. It was on this day that Marshall was choosen as the destination for Southwest Minnesota State College.

The doors open for Southwest Minnesota State College and a class of 509 students moved in to the residence halls.
