    Technically the first social media site ever created. The website was created by Andrew Weinreich. Users created a profile and connected with friends, and later users were given the ability to write messages and blogs. Website lasted until 2001.

    Tumblr was created by David Karp. Its a microblogging platform and social networking website. The site allows users to post multimedia and other content to a short-form blog.
