  • Underground Railroad

    Underground Railroad
    The Underground Railroad was not underground or a railroad.The name "Underground Railroad" was used as a sercert because its activities had to be carried out in secret, using darkness or disguise. They had ways of getting blacks to the North to be free. Different routes to take. Either by boat, walking, or buggy. Even tthough laws were past if you caught a slave you got money and if you didn't tell anyone you went to jail.
  • Frederick Douglass

    Frederick Douglass
    Douglass was born in Talbot Country, Maryland. He was Abolitionist, author, editor, and diploment. He was the most famous Abolitonist. He wrote a abolitonist newspaper call The North Star. He was a s;ave. Escaped from Maryland. He went to France because he was scared of getting captured, and becoming a slave again. He came back to U.S.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    The Missouri Compromise was about if slavery should be aloud in Missouri or not. The slaveholders had already migrated into Missouri territory. So the 36'30' line was established. Which met if your state was above the line you were free and if you were below you were a slave state. Even though Missouri was more above the line it became a slave state, but the north got a new state that was free. Which was Maine.
  • Nat Turner's Rebellion

    Nat Turner's Rebellion
    Nat Turner was slave. His Slave owner was named Joseph Travis, in Southampton Country, Virgina. Turner and about seven other slaves killed Travis and his family to launch his rebellion. In all, about 50 whites were killed.Turner had hoped this his action would cause a massive slave uprising but only 75 joined his rebellion. Turner was executed.
  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    The Compromise of 1850 was about was a five part compromise. California was entered as a free state.The Fugitive Slave Act made any federal official who did not arrest a runaway slave liable to pay a fine. This was the most controversial part of the Compromise of 1850 and caused many abolitionists to increase their efforts against slavery.
  • The Kansas-Nebraska Act

    The Kansas-Nebraska Act
    This act allowed people in the territories of Kansas and Nebraska to decide for themselves whether or not to allow slavery within the borders. The act repealed the 30'36" line. Was passed by Congress. The infuriated many people in the north. Kansas became a slave state. Pro slavery settlers were out numbeed by anti-slavery settlers and a new constitution was drawn up.
  • Bleeding Kansas

    Bleeding Kansas
    During the summer of 1856, antislavery and proslavery forces raid and burn one anothers towns and farms, destroying 2 million dollors worth of property. Killed about 200 people. Antislavery governments captial was Topeka. Proslavery governments captial was Lecompton. John Brown a Abolitionst and his five sons massacre five proslavery settlers, May 24. The violence won the territory a grim nickname. "Bleeding Kansas".
  • Dred Scott Case

    Dred Scott Case
    Dred Scott was asked to be free but was dinied. Chief Justice Roger Taney stated that as an African American Scott was inferrior and without rights. Not one Legal basis existed in 1857 for granting any rights even those who were free. Congress had to protect slavery throught the Union.Scott losed the case. After the case congress can not stop the spread of slavery.

    The electon had four canindents. Abraham Lincoln, he was a Repiblican., Stephen Douglas was a DemocraticNorthern. John breckinridge was a Democratic Southern. John Bell was a Constitional Union. Lincoln had Northern states, California and Oregon. Douglas had Missouri and South New Jersey. Breckinridge had lower south states. Bell had Border states. Lincoln won the electon with 180 votes. Douglas had 12. Breckinridge had 61. Bell ha 39.
  • Attack on Fort Sumter

    Attack on Fort Sumter
    Fort Sumter was an island. It was in the harbor of Charleston. Was the starting of the Civil War. The Confederate Troops attacked on Fort Sumter. The Union supply ships arrived but did not make it to the fort. The Union did surrender. It was the beging of the Civil War.
