    Missouri Compromise
    The Missouri Compromise holds the stability of the free and slave states in the union. This kept bad conflicts and arguments throught out territories from rising up.

This book really made people realize how cruel slavery and made them think about how it would be if they were slaves which inspired them to speak out agaisnt slavery.

    The Republican Party was created to oppose the idea of slavery moving west. Members of the previous Whig Party that formed to protest against "tyranny" of Andrew Jackson, created the Republican Party.

    Senator Stephen Douglas propoces the Kansas-Nebraska Act allowing new territories to decide whether or not to permit slavery. This gave states the choice to change their freedom laws after all these years which angered the norhtern states but made southern states happy because slavery was somewhat more acceeptable.

    Dred-Scott Case
    A supreme court case in which an African slave attempted to sue for his freedom, but was unsuccesful. However, this case brought into question the federal power over slavery in the United States. This dissapointed many people who were against slavery because it declared that slaves are not considered citizens, therefore they can not file lawsuits. And also the court stated that slaves were to be considered property. Congress did not have the authority to outlaw slavery in the territories.

    John Brown led 18 other men into Harper's Ferry, in hopes to establish a major slave rebellion in the south. And to build up his army he would recruit slaves along the way. This incouraged other people from north and south to join protests and help the cause to end slavery.

    The Democrats came together to elect their nect president. They faces troubles though because the north and south could not agree on the same person. This gave the Republicans an advantage so they took action and found their guy, Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln later won the election and basically abolished slavery in the United States.
