  • Catherine McAuley was born

    Catherine went to work at the Cooklock House which is a house where young women aged up to 25 years who are pregnant or parenting and are homeless or at risk of homelessness got cared for. They offered a 24/7 schedule
  • Catherine opened schools and hospitals

    In 1827 alone, Catherine opened lots of schools, Collages, Highschool, Hospitals etc.

    Catherine McAuley started the sisters in 1831 in Dublin Ireland. She died in 1841 of Tuberculosis (A disease that affects the lungs)

    In 1906 the Sisters of Mercy opened the first Mater Private Hospital in Brisbane's North Quay. From a large donation; the Sisters of Mercy were able to buy the land at Mater Hill, South Brisbane that you see today.
