Since moving to its current location, Concordia University Wisconsin's campus worship has had some consistency along with many fluctuations

  • New Organ

After buying and moving to the old campus of the School Sisters of Notre Dame in the 1980s, CUW replaced the old organ in the main chapel with an organ from Steiner-Reck Organ Company for the 1989-90 school year according to the Organ Historical Society Pipe Organ Database. The organ featured a unique console, being built into the organ. It has three manuals, each with 58 notes, and a pedal with 32 notes. This organ has lead every Sunday Divine Service held on campus since its completion.
  • Theses on Worship Passed

During the 1995-96 school year, the Board of Regents passed the Theses on Worship. Theses theses laid out what was and was not appropriate for worship on campus. The Board of Regents originally passed five theses but a sixth thesis the board later passed a couple of years later.
  • Many Evening Offices Added

During the 1995-96 school year, a group of students started holding many evening offices. Students led these services each evening Monday through Thursday, each night with its own office. On Mondays it was Holden Evening Prayer. On Tuesdays it was Vespers. On Wednesdays it was the normal Evening Prayer. On Thursdays it was Compline. As time progressed and certain students left or graduated, all but the Wednesday Evening Prayer was still offered.
  • Resounding Joy Started

Starting the school year of 1996-97, CUW began to offer the class Resounding Joy. According to the Professor Lynn Little, she taught the one credit music class. In class, Resounding Joy practiced contemporary Christian songs and played them for chapel at least once a week. Resounding Joy also had fall and spring concerts.
  • The Haven Started

During the school year of 1997-1998, The Haven began. Wanting a contemporary group on campus without the hassle of being a class, allowing for more freedom, a group of students started The Haven as time of devotions and praise music. An event with music and devotions were held once a week and still are today. During this time, the bands only played for this devotional time.
  • New Hymnal

During the 2006-07 school year, CUW replaced the blue Lutheran Worship Hymnals with the maroon Lutheran Service Book. The new hymnal featured almost all of the psalms with chant tones, five divine services, other orders of service, and over 600 hymns. With old and new hymns, additional services and psalms, the LSB provided the university with great flexibility for picking what to do on a Sunday or for a chapel.
  • Resounding Joy Ended

After the 2005-06 school year, Resounding Joy was no longer offered as a class. After offering the class for a decade, CUW discontinued the one credit class. While Little would no longer have Resounding Joy to attend to, she continued to teach other music classes on campus and still does today.
  • The Haven in Chapel

After the CUW’s ending of Resounding Joy, The Haven took over its chapel spot during the school year of 2006-07, no longer being a group of just devotions and music on Sunday evenings. Playing sometimes up to twice a week, on a varying range of days, The Haven brought contemporary music into the Chapel of Christ Triumphant for the weekday chapels. One of the four bands were selected to play for all The Haven chapel days.
  • The Haven's Chapel Changes

After a year of having one set band play for chapel on varying days, Pastor Smith made some changes in the 2007-08 school year. According to Smith, that was school year when he ended The Haven’s chapel playing on varying days for chapels and established Wednesday as the day The Haven would play. A band rotation was also established, so all of The Haven bands could play for some chapels.
  • Compline Restarted

During the 2015-16 school year, a group of students started doing Compline in the Rogote Chapel. Rotating between a set of pre-seminary students leading, Compline was offered every night, other than Wednesday, throughout the whole school year. The service is conducted without any instruments and is still being held to this day. Services are at 9:30 pm.
