    The first shoe was a sage brush bark sandal that was worn in 7000 - 8000 bc. It was found in Oregon in 1963. It was a rudimentary shoe to protect the feet.

    The first leather shoe was discovered in 2008. It was made from a single piece of leather and laced with a leather cord. The shoe was created by Armanian cavemen around 3500 bc.

    In the 16th century the high heal shoe was invented. A woman going to a wedding wanted to appear taller than she was. High heeled shoes also helped horse riders to keep their shoes in the stirrup.

    Shoes became more popular in the 18th century. They started to be mass produced and stored in large warehouses. Shoes were still made by hand in small factories.
