  • Somerset damn Built

    The Bureau of Industry Stanley River Works Board started the construction of Somerset dam in 1934 but was delayed due to world war II. It resumed construction in 1948.
  • Cane toads

    Cane toads are introduced in Queensland to control pests on sugar cane crops. We later found out that the cane toads are now the pests.
  • The story bridge was built.

    The Story Bridge, Brisbane's most iconic bridge, opens and is named after John Douglas Story—a senior and influential public servant who had advocated strongly for the bridge’s construction.
  • Queen Elizabeth Visits Ausrtalia

    On 3 February 1954, Queen Elizabeth II became the first reigning British monarch to visit Australia. She was currently on her world tour.
  • Rod laver wins grand.

    Rockhampton-born Rod Laver wins the tennis Grand Slam (the only man to win it twice—winning again in 1969).
  • Bruce Highway

    The Bruce Highway was completed now connecting seq to northern Queensland
  • Daylight saving was introduced.

    Queenslanders voted against permanently introducing daylight saving time after a three-year trial back in 1992.
  • Brisbane FLOOD!

    The rains were caused by Wanda, a fairly weak cyclone that did not even rate as a category 1 cyclone. Heaps of heavy rain had fallen for three weeks, leading up to the flood, which happened on Sunday, 27 January 1974, during the Australia Day weekend.
  • First state of Origin (We obviously won)

    Queensland beats New South Wales 20–10 in the first State of Origin game in front of a packed Lang Park (now Suncorp Stadium).
