The war happend becuase of alleged Chechen or pro-Chechen terrorist and criminal activity in Russia, as well as border clashes. As of 2009, Russia has disabled the Chechen separatist movement and large-scale fighting is over. -

Russian and Ossetian troops are battling Georgian forces. They are blockading the Georgia coast. Parties reached a ceasefire agreement on 12 August, signed by Georgia.
