Scottsboro Boys arrested

A fight breaks out between a group of white men and the Scottsboro boys.The scottsboro boys are arrested after a posse stops the train they were on. Ruby Bates and Victoria Price make false accusations of rape against all nine of them. The rape charges are added to assault charges after the brawling.

Sentences are made

Eight of the scottsboro boys are sentenced to death while the trial of Roy Wright was rendered invalid when some jurors held out for a death sentence even though the prosecutors asked for a life sentence.

Haywood Patterson found guilty by jury and sentenced to death in the electric chair.

May 18, 1933

trials posponed

Judge Horton postpones the trials of the other Scottsboro boys because of dangerously high local tensions.

Dec 28, 1933

Haywood Patterson and Clarence Norris are tried for rape, convicted, and sentenced to death.

Jan 24, 1936

Ozzie Powell is shot in the head

Ozzie Powell is shot in the head by Sheriff Jay Sandlin while trying to attack Deputy Sheriff Edgar Blalock.

Jul 31, 1937

Clarence, Charles, Andy and Ozzie are convoicted

Clarence Norris is convicted of rape and sentenced to death. Andy Wright is convicted and sentenced to 99 years for rape. Charlie Weems is convicted and sentenced to 75 years. Ozzie Powell pleads guilty to assaulting the sheriff and is sentenced to 20 years.

Sep 28, 1951

Patterson is charged for a barroom fight.

Patterson is convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 6 to 15 years. He dies of cancer less than a year later.

Oct 31, 1976

Clarence Norris is pardoned by Alabama Governor George Wallace.

This seems to show the reparations for the damage done are underway

Jul 31, 1977

Victoria Price's suit against NBC which she claimed defamed her and invaded her privacy, is dismissed.

Victoria price;'s case was dismissed. it is viewed ironic how she claims nbc Defamed her. She was almost soley responsible for every single wrong doing in these boy's lives but still doesnt seem to care.
