Public Health nurse Cora Clemons and her associates create Samaritan House in partnership with the City of San Mateo. The new agency provides referral for people experiencing need for basic social services. Its first home is at 115 N. Delaware St., San Mateo.

The Holiday Assistance Program began distributing toys to low-income families.

Concerned citizens establish Hospitality Family Kitchen at the King Center to feed people in need.

Samaritan House merges with the Hospitality Family Kitchen when it becomes a Core Agency for the Central County. It begins providing direct services -- serving meals, establishing the Clothes Closet at North Shoreview School gymnasium, partnering in a Holiday distribution program, and managing a new Thanksgiving program.

Food Pantry opens and delivers nonperishable food to families.

Project Wee Care (children’s learning and giving program) is founded.

Samaritan House runs the homeless shelter at the National Guard Armory on N. Humboldt during the holiday season.

A second mobile unit is added at Humboldt Street to house the Kitchen and the Pantry begins providing groceries through a voucher system. Operation Bread Basket starts up, using volunteers to pick up donated foods.

San Mateo High School students begin their record breaking food drives benefiting the Samaritan House food program.

The Samaritan House Free Medical Clinic opens in a few rooms at Samaritan House. The Clothes Closet moves to its current location at 1515 S. Claremont St.
