Sally Ride studied at Stanford University and was a double major in physics and English. In 1973, she recieved bachelor's degrees in both subjects. In 1978 she graduated with a Ph.D. in physics.

Ride was a Mission Specialist aboard the space shuttle Challenger. She was the first American woman in space.

Ride travelled to space a second time, again aboard the Challenger.

Sally Ride had been training for 8 months for her third trip to space. Unfortunately, the space shuttle Challenger exploded. She wasn't on board, but she vowed to never go into space again.

Ride recieved the Greatest Public Service Award by an Individual 35 Years or Under, presented by Jefferson Awards.

Ride was inducted into the California Hall of Fame by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver

Ride was also inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame.

Ride died of pancreatic cancer after being diagosed wth it 17 months before. She was 61 at the time of her death.
