Ryan was born in Ottawa, CAN.
-
Ryan, at six years old, learns that kids in Africa must often walk for kilometres to get water.
-
The opening ceremony, which Ryan went to, was arranged by the CPAR and was also the first time Ryan met his pen pal, Jimmy Akana.
-
After the first well, Ryan says "the ripple effect took over" and founded this with help from adults.
-
The war in Uganda was putting Jimmy's life in danger and, with permission, the Hreljac parents were allowed to bring him to Canada to live with them.
-
The province's highest honour was given to Ryan along with countless other awards for his work. He says "The only reason I accept awards is that each word I say when I get one might help one more person".
-
Not much to say other than he went at the age of 14 while in a hockey jersey.

By 2007, the Ryan's Well Foundation had raised more than $1.5M and built 255 wells. By that time also, Ryan had helped more than 400 000 people in 12 countries with a clean water source.
