  • Petitions for RRT Submitted and First Officers Elected

    Richard H. Perrine, Reference Librarian, Fondren Library, Rice University, conducts the organizational meeting of "The Texas Chapter, A Reference Round Table" at the Statler-Hilton Hotel in Dallas 28 March during the TLA Annual Conference. 25 librarians attended. Tentative bylaws are discussed and two petitions for establishment of RRT as (1) a round table of TLA and (2) a chapter of the American Library Association Reference Services Division (RSD) are circulated.   • Reference Round Table becomes official unit of TLA.

    A revised Petition to Council is submitted 11 April by David Henington, Chairman of the Constitution Committee. He moves acceptance. Motion carries. The Reference Round Table becomes an official unit of the Texas Library Association.
  • First Bylaws are Adopted.

    First official Bylaws for "The Texas Chapter, Reference Services Division of the American Library Association, a Reference Round Table of the Texas Library Association" are adopted in May. Helen Smith, University of Texas at Austin, is elected the first Chairman and Maxine Johnston, Lamar State College, is elected the first Secretary-Treasurer of the official Reference Round Table.

    Reference Round Table By-Laws are first published in the Winter 1964 Texas Library Journal.
  • First Conference Program

    RRT offers its first conference program "Expectations of a State-Wide Reference Service" 2 April.
  • Becomes an ALA Reference Services Division chapter

    RRT is granted chapter status by the Reference Services Division of the American Library Association 6 July at the ALA Annual Conference in Detroit, Michigan. It becomes the tenth RSD chapter.
  • First Pre-Conference Institute

    RRT offers its first preconference institute "Seminar on Reference Services in Texas Libraries" with the Texas State Library 3 April.
  • Second Pre-Conference Institute

    RRT offers its second preconference institute 26 March: "Cooperative Information and Reference Services -- Library Networks".
  • Third Pre-Conference Institute

    RRT offers its third preconference institute 8 April: "Reference Networks: Serendipity and Service".
  • Second Publication

    RRT produces its second publication A Directory of Library Networks in Texas published by the Texas State Library Field Services Division.
  • First Guide to Texas Information Sources Published as an Article

    The American Library Association Reference Services Division and Adult Services Division merge to form the Reference and Adult Services Division. RRT publishes its first guide to Texas information sources as an article in the October 1973 Texas Library Journal: "Sources of Information About Texas: A Basic List.".
  • First Edition of Texas Reference Sources is published

    The first edition of Texas Reference Sources: A Selective Guide is published in a printing of 250 copies.
  • First update to Texas Reference Sources is published.

    The first update to Texas Reference Sources: A Selective Guide is published in the November 1976 Texas Library Journal: "Texas Reference Sources, 1975-76".
  • Second update to Texas Reference Sources is published.

    The second update to Texas Reference Sources: A Selective Guide is published in the Fall 1977 Texas Library Journal: "Texas Reference Sources, 1976-77".
  • Texas Reference Sources revised edition published.

    The revised edition of Texas Reference Sources: A Selective Guide is published. The American Library Association Reference and Adult Services Division establishes the Council of State and Regional Groups as a forum for affiliated organizations. The Council replaces the RASD Relations with State and Regional Library Associations Committee. RRT is one of the original affiliated associations in the Council.
  • First RRT Newsletter is issued 1981-1982

  • Third edition of Texas Reference Sources is published.

    The third edition of Texas Reference Sources: A Selective Guide is published.
  • First Lois Bebout Reference Service Award presented.

    The first Lois Bebout Reference Service Award is presented to Lois Bebout herself at the TLA Annual Conference in Dallas.
  • Jean Furr Tolbert receives second Lois Bebout Reference Service Award.

    Jean Furr Tolbert, retired Reference Librarian and Emeritus Associate Professor, Baylor University, is awarded the second Lois Bebout Reference Service Award 11 March during the TLA Annual Conference in San Antonio.
  • RRT reaffiliates with ALA Reference and Adult Services Division Council of State and Regional Groups. Fourth edition of Texas Reference Sources is published

    RRT officially reaffiliates with the American Library Association Reference and Adult Services Division Council of State and Regional Groups. The fourth edition of Texas Reference Sources: A Selective Guide is published.
  • First TALL Texans Leadership Institute Stipend awarded.

    RRT Executive Committee votes 13 April to provide a $350 stipend to support an RRT member's attendance at TLA's first TALL Texans Leadership Institute. Elaine Klobe, RRT Secretary/Treasurer, is the recipient of the stipend.
  • Margaret Irby Nichols received the third Lois Bebout Reference Service Award.

    Margaret Irby Nichols, University of North Texas, is presented the third Lois Bebout Reference Service Award.
  • RRT affiliation with ALA Reference and Adult Services Division ends.

    RRT affiliation with the American Library Association Reference and Adult Services Division ends at the conclusion of the July American Library Association Annual Conference in New York with the dissolution of the Council of State and Regional Groups. The dissolution had been approved by the RASD Board of Directors during the January 1996 ALA Midwinter Meeting.

  • First Texas Reference Source Award presented at April 1998 Conference.

    RRT announces that the winner of the first Texas Reference Source Award to honor an outstanding reference tool relevant to Texas history, culture, or commerce is The New Handbook of Texas (Texas State Historical Association, 1996). The award is presented at the April 1998 TLA Annual Conference.
  • RRT distribution listserv becomes active.

    The RRT distribution listserv is activated 20 February.
  • RRT Logo adopted.

    RRT Logo adopted.
    A new RRT logo set, designed by John Hepner (Texas Woman's University), is adopted at the RRT Executive Board meeting 11 July during the TLA Annual Assembly.
  • RRT Newsletter begins electronic distribution.

    The Fall 2001 RRT Newsletter begins electronic distribution to all RRT members reporting email addresses. Print copies are distributed only to RRT members for which email addresses are not on file with TLA.
  • RRT Banner first displayed in exhibit hall booth during Centennial TLA Annual Conference in Dallas.

    A new RRT banner is first displayed at the RRT exhibit hall booth during the Centennial TLA Annual Conference in Dallas. Four display panels created by John Hepner (Texas Woman's University) about the history of RRT are first displayed in the exhibit booth.
  • Fifth edition of Texas Reference Sources is published in both print and online versions.

    The 5th edition of Texas Reference Sources is published in September and becomes the first edition to be produced in both print and online versions and the first edition to include electronic as well as print resources. It is also expected to be the last edition to be produced in printed form.

    RRT initiates participation in electronic balloting for RRT officers through the TLA electronic balloting system. The Spring 2005 RRT Newsletter is the last printed copy produced and distributed. Beginning with the Fall 2005 issue, the RRT Newsletter becomes exclusively an electronic newsletter. The RRT volunteer form and the nomination form for the Texas Reference Source Award become interactive forms on the RRT website.

  • John Hepner receives the Lois Bebout Reference Service Award.

    John Hepner becomes the 5th recipient of the Lois Bebout Reference Service Award at the RRT program during the TLA Annual Conference in San Antonio.

    Printed copies of TRS withdrawn from sale. Changes in leadership.

    John Hepner retires as RRT Newsletter editor and Jeff Bond, Texas Christian University, replaces him. Beginning with the Fall 2008 issue, the RRT Newsletter is provided in a PDF format. Alpana Sarangapani, Lone Star College in Tomball, is selected as RRT Webmaster, replacing Beth Thomsett-Scott, who was selected to be RRT Chair. Printed copies of the 5th edition of Texas Reference Sources are withdrawn from sale and TLA inventory in favor of the more up-to-date Texas References Sources Online
  • New display at RRT Exhipit booth created.

    RRT retires the TLA Centennial history exhibit panels and replaces them with a vinyl display panel mounted on a table display unit. The display is first used at the RRT exhibit booth during the 2010 TLA Annual Conference.
  • RRT Newsletter discontinued

    Jeff Bond resigns as RRT Newsletter editor and the RRT Executive Committee approves a recommendation from the Publicity/Membership Committee to discontinue publication of a newsletter.
  • Kelly Brouillard appointed as RRT Webmaster.

    Kelly Brouillard, Lewisville Public Library, is appointed as the new RRT Webmaster.
