    Magna Carta

    Magna Carta
    King John of England and the Barons signed it. It was signed at Runnymede near Windsor Castle. The king could not take property, could not tax peopl unless a council of men agreed, people could not be put on trial w/out witness, and they could only be punished by a jury of their peers.
  • Mayflower Compact

    Mayflower Compact
    The purpose was to prevent the dissent of Puritan and non-separatist pilgrims who had landed at Plymouth. Meaning they wanted to disregaurd the set laws but the compact stopped that from happening.
  • Petition of Rights

    No taxes would be given without consent, no imprisonment without a shown case, soldiers cannot be put in private houses, and martial law cannot be used in times of peace. It was signed by Charles I.
  • English Bill of Rights

    English Bill of Rights
    The Bill granted people the right to bear arms in defense, freedom of speech and the right to democratic processes. King William the 3rd and Queen Mary signed it.
  • Albany Plan of Union

    Albany Plan of Union
    It was suggested by Benjamin Franklin. It was rejected because Britain didnt like the thought of that much power in the hands of the Americans. "Join or Die" a cartoon of a snake split into 13 parts one was each colony was made by Benjamin Franklin.
  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    Austria, England, France, Great Britain, Prussia, and Sweden were all involved. But Britain, and France were the biggest part. The battles of Fort Necessity and WIlderness, as well as the Battle at Oswego, the Massacre at Fort WIlliam Henry, the Battle at Port Luisburg and the Capture of Quebec were major battles in the war. The British won. Americans were angered with Britian because they sent an amry to control America.

    King George the III sent an amry to stay in America and the Americans did not like that. They felt like their freedom was being seized after having governed themselves for over 150 years. They were offended, and angered.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    A tax was set on all pieces of paper that were printed. The leaders did not see the turmoil that would come but the people were furious.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    5 colonists were killed. Townsend Acts.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The Sons of Liberty committed the act, and were dressed as Mohawk Indians. The British responded by making the Intolerable acts of 1774 which closed the Boston ports and destroyed the Massachusetts government.
  • Intolerable Acts

    They passed the acts to put the colonies back in there place specifically Massachusetts because of the Boston Tea Party. The Boston ports were closed and the Massachusetts government was destroyed.
  • First Continental Congress

    George Washington, Richard Henry Lee, Patrick Henry, Edmund Pendleton, Benjamin Harrison, Richard Bland, and Peyton Randolph were all delegates from Virginia and very important. As a result they sent grievenses to England. It took place Carpenter's Hall in Philidelphia.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    The British were retreating under intense fire. Colonel Smith, Major Pitcairne and Lord Percy commanded the British Troops. Paul Revere and William Dawes rode to warn the villages on the route to Concord and the Congress. Militia were commanded by Barrett, Buttrick, Robinson and many others.
  • Second Continental Congress

    It took place in Philidelphia. Forming a Continental Army was a big idea here. The major leaders were George Washington and John Adams.

  • Articles of Confederation

    John Hanson was the first president under the Articles,
  • Treaty of Paris

    Benjamin Franklin, John Jay, Henry Laurens, and John Adams represented America. The British finally recognized the Declaration of Independence. Canada became a border to America.
  • Start of Constitutional Convention

    Not all the States sent delagates to the Annapolis Convention and so a national convention was reschedualed for later in Philidelphia. The original reason for the convention was to discuss trade regulation.
