    During the 1918 Influenza, there was an extreme decrease in nurses and the Red Cross, which was founded in 1881, was yet again there to help and was on a search for nurses. The shortage was due to nurses contracting influenza and were not able to work, so more help was needed. This shortage occurred in Dallas and was announced in local newspapers to spread the word. Today, there is hardly ever a shortage of nurses, and help is always available.
