    Dred Scott Decision
    Dred Scott was a black slave that wanted his freedom, and took it to the court system of the United States. The supreme court denied his plea, saying that no negros were ever going to be citizens. This invalidated the Missouri compromise of 1820 and made northern abolitionists mad. This led to the electing of Abraham lincoln in 1860, which led to equal rights and freedom for african americans.
  • Lincoln Assassination

    Lincoln Assassination
    Abraham Lincoln was the first American President to be assassinated. It was a plan conducted to bring back the confederate ideas of slavery and white supremecy, and was carried out by actor John Booth. The assassination brought more people together to keep his works going, and people called him "the greatest man they had ever known".

It is primarily funded through payroll taxes, but it is the largest government program and cost the greatest in the American Budget. It is estimated that social security helps to keep over 40% of people that are over the age of 65 out of poverty, by sending them checks every month.

    These were a series of investigations that investigated accusations made on the United States Army and Mccarthy. He was accused of giving extra protection to a friend named David Schine. He was found guilty, and since then many laws have been enforced within the government system .

    This case took on segregation within public schools. The court decision was a 9 to 0 vote, and integrated the schools, because seperating schools based upon race was unequal. This gave blacks more of an opportunity to go to a good public school, and have a more open and fair society.

    By the 14th amendment, every state must give an attorney to those who cannot afford one. Although Gideon was not freed, he got a new trial because he was not given an attorney the first time. This is a huge landmark, because many people cannot afford their own attorney, which gives equality to everyone.

By 1968, more than 60% of african americans were voting, which means more african americans were elected into public office. It opened the doors for many things later to come, like the african american president that we have now.

    The watergate scandal started with a break in of the democratic national committee headquaters. President Nixon was responsible, and had his administration try and cover up the fact that they did it. Nixon resigned before being brought to trial in 1974. Vice president then pardoned Nixon, which brought tons of conspiracy to the table. As a result, many Americans began to question the trustworthyness of the US government.

    Bill clinton was impeached by the house of representatives for charges of perjury and obstruction of justice. He became only the second president to be impeached. The american society found it hard to trust presidents after this case had happened.
