  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    Between the French and their Native American allies, and the British and their Native American allies. The british won and after their victory, they started taxing the colonists to pay for the cost of war. George Washington started it.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    It ended the French and Indian War. Britian claimed of the land east of the Mississippi river. Colonists started to settle in Native Americans land, and Britain told them to get out.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    Taxed the colonists ro pay for the price of the French and Indian war. Passed by the British. Issued by King George III.
  • Sugar Act of 1764

    Modified version of the Sugar and Molasses Act of 1733. The British passed a tax on sugar, wine and other important goods. The British passed this tax because they needed more money to pay for the price of war.
  • Stamp Act of 1765

    Anyone who was creatine an offical document like a newspaper would have to pay a tax on blank paper and they received a stamp of proof of payment. Payment was accepted in gold and silver only and not by paper money. Anyone who tried to make fake stamps was put to death.

    Colonists had to provide food, housing, blankets, etc. for the British Soldiers. Colonists hated it but could do nothing about it. Was usually done during a time when there wasn't a war.
  • Writs of Assistance

    Warrants that allowed officials to search anyone for smuggled goods within any suspected premises. Passed by the British. Colonists did not like the Writs of Assistance.
  • Townshend Acts of 1767

    Townshend Acts of 1767
    A string of laws passed by the Parliment of Great Britain. The Townshend Acts involved five laws namely the Revenue Act of 1767, the Indemnity Act, the New York Restraining Act, the Commissioners of Customs Act, and the Vice Admiralty Court Act. The prupose was to raise revenues.
  • Boston Massacre of 1770

    Boston Massacre of 1770
    A mob confronted British Soldiers at the Boston Customs House. The Soldiers killed 5 colonists. This enraged the other colonists even more.

    Tea merchants were cut out of the tea trade because the B.E.I.C. lowered their prices. They controlled the tea sales. This resulted in the Boston Tea Party.

    Was a result of the Tea Act of 1773. The Sons of Liberty dressed as American Indians dumped crates of tea overboard a trading ship and into the Boston Harbor. The Intolerable Acts were a result.
  • Intolerable Acts of 1774

    Was a result of the Boston Tea Party. Colonists could not hold town meetings. Port of Boston closed.
  • 1st Continental Congress

    Met in Philadelphia. Sam Adams, John Adams, George Washington and Patrick Henry were the leaders of it. They cut of colonial trade with Great Britian unless Parliment repealed the Intolerable Acts.
  • Concord 1775

    It was the same day as Lexington. The British soldiers marched to Concord after their victory at Lexington.They found the colonists blocking off the bridge to Concord. The colonists won this battle.
  • Lexington 1775

    First battle of the American Revolution. That is where the quote "Shot heard around the world," Came from. The British were marching through Lexington at dawn when they were met by a group of Lexington Militiman. Tensions rose, and someone fired. The fighting started and so did the American revolution.
  • 2nd Continental Congress

    They met in what is now called Independence Hall. Thomas Jefferson and Benjiman Franklin were a part of it. John Hancock was the new president.
  • Fort Ticonderoga 1775

    It was a fort that was captured by the Americans from the British. Major General John Burgoyne commanded the British and Major General Arthur St. Clair commanded the Americans. Fort Ticonderoga is found on Lake Champlain.
  • Bunker Hill 1775

    It was fought on Bunker Hill. The Americans were ordered, "Don't shoot until you see the whites of their eyes!" Because they were low on supplies like ammunition. It was the first major battle.

    George Washington led his army across the Delaware river. He was planning a sneak attack on the British. This was his last chance to get the spirits of his army up or else they wouldn't re-enlist next year.

    It was fought in Princeton, New Jersey. The Americans captured more than 250 British soldiers. The Americans won.
  • Battle of Saratoga 1777

    It was the turning point of the war. The Americans won. Because the Americans won, the French and Spanish joined their side.
  • Winter at Valey-Forge 1781

    Washington lost over 1/4 of his army. They died of frostbite and starvation. It made the army very weak.
  • Battle of Yorktown 1781

    it was the last significant battle. The Americans won with the help of the French. Because the Americans won, they also won their independence.
  • Treaty of Paris 1783

    It ended the American Revolution. It was signed by the Americans and the British. It gave American it's indepedence.
