    Magna Carta

    England's King John signed the magna carta.it was signed in Runnymede (located beside the River Thames, now in the county of Surrey). It limiting the powers of the monarch and preserving the basic legal rights of all free men in England
  • Mayflower Compact

    It was written by the Separatists, also known as the "Saints", fleeing from religious persecution by King James of Great Britain. The Mayflower Compact was the first governing document of Plymouth Colony
  • Bill of Rights

    The king and queen William and Mary of Orange.
    "grants and promises of fines or forfeitures" before conviction are void
    no excessive bail or "cruel and unusual" punishments may be imposed
  • albany plan of union

    Although never carried out, it was the first important plan to conceive of the colonies as a collective whole united under one government.

    The colonists were angry with the new taxes to pay for the suppoert in the war from the british. The Proclamation of 1763 angered the colonists. Then the King made matters worse. The governor of each colony was given more power. Colonial governors were given the King's power to change any law made by the legislature of a colony. This law reminded the colonists they had no true right to self-government.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was the killing of five colonists by British soldiers. they were trying to inforce the Townshend Acts and the stap act.
