Magna Carta
King John signed the Magna Carta in England. It gave men basic legal rights , as well as trial by jury and a proper punishment. -
Mayflower Compact
This said they would have freedom from persecution, have a new constituton and have a new king. This bound together the colonists. -
Petition of Rights
Charles I signed this at the beginning of his reign. Englishmen would not be forced to provide a loan without an act of parliament. There is no imprisionment without a just cause. -
English Bill of rights
The English bill of rights was signed by William III and Mary II.
It gave englishmen the freedom of speech and there to be no royal interference with the law. -
Albany plan of union
Benjamin Franklin suggested the idea of a unified government for the 13 colonies but it was never accepted. The cartoon Join or Die is associated with this cartoon. -
French and Indian War
The French and Indian War was a war between the French and Engish. The English defeated the French resulting in them becoming the dominant power in America. -

He decided that he needed a standing army in America. -

This act said that every piece of paper had to have a stamp on it. It was a direct way Englad was trying to tax the colonies more. -

The Sons of Liberty and dumped a bunch of imported tea from british ships. -
first Continential Congress
This was a meeting held in Carpenters Hall in Philidelphia, PA. It was to discuss what needed to happen with the Intolerable Acts. -
Intolerable Acts
In response to the Boston Tea Party, the english responded with Intolerable Acts. Soldiers could now live at anyones house at any time. -
Lexington and Concord
"The shot heard around the world". Started off the Amercian Revolution. The Amercians considered it a great start to the war. -
Second Continential Congress.
This meeting held in Pennsylvania State House in Philidelphia PA, was to discuss independence. -
Declaration of Independence
This document announced that the American Colonies no longer held any connection to the British Crown. It was written by Thomas Jefferson. -
Articles of Confederation
The first constitution of the United States. We replaced these with a better constitution. -
Treaty OF Paris
This treaty ended the 7 years war. George III gave back stolen territories hoping to end confict. American Delegates urged for independence. -
Constitutional convention
First held in Annapolis, MD. Only 5 of the 13 colonies showed up.The purpose of this convention was to establish a stronger central government.
