  • Treaty of Paris

    A treaty that was signed to end the French and Indian War.
  • Proclamation Act

    An act made to forbid living past a line on the Appalachian Mountains.
  • Sugar Act

    Enacted to generate revenue for Great Britain. Taxed the movement of sugar.
  • Committee of Correspondence

    Committee made to inform voters on threats in all colonies. The committee was involved in starting the First Continental Congress.
  • Currency Act

    Act to regulate the use of paper money in the colonies.
  • Stamp Act

    Act that required printed materials to be produced on a stamped paper made in London. The tax money went towards the military primarily.
  • Quartering Act

    Act that made Americans house British soldiers in their homes.
  • Stamp Act Congress

    Meeting of representatives to discuss plans to protest the stamp act.
  • Declaration of Rights and Grievances

    Document saying that taxes enacted by British colonists were unconstitutional.
  • Stamp Act Repealed

    Due to the colonists protest towards this act, the British Parliament repealed the stamp act.
  • Declaratory Act

    States that the Colonies have the same authority as the British Parliament.
  • Townshend Act

    Act to generate revenue to pay governors and judges.
  • Boston Massacre

    British soldiers killed five unarmed civilians.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Protest where large amounts of tea were thrown into the Boston Harbor.
  • Tea Act

    Created a monopoly on tea sales to the East India company. Colonists could only buy tea from them.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Series of harsh laws sponsored by British Prime Minister Lord North set upon colonists in response to the Boston Tea Party.
  • 1st Continental Congress

    Brought together representatives from the colonies besides Georgia to discuss the Intolerable Acts.
  • Lexington & Concord

    First shots that were fired in the Revolutionary War. British soldiers were making their way to Concord where ammo was stored and planned to arrest John Hancock and Samuel Adams.
  • Bunker Hill

    “Don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes” This was a two day battle that actually took place on Breed’s Hill.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    A petition made by the colonists as the last attempt for a peaceful negotiation. The British refused.
  • Common Sense

    An outline of reasons the colonists should sever their ties with Britain, written by Thomas Paine.
  • Declaration of Independence

    The declaration signed by the leaders of the 13 colonies that they considered themselves separate from Britain. It was signed during the war.
