    Magna Carta

    Magna Carta
    Magna Carta is Latin and means "Great Charter" and is one of the most important documents of Medieval England. King John and the barons of Medieval England signed the Magna Carta at Runnymede near Windsor Castle. It was a series of written promises between the king and his people saying he would govern England and deal with it's people according to the feudal law. http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk/magna_carta.htm
  • Mayflower Compact

    Mayflower Compact
    The Mayflower Compact was the first written framework of government established in present day United States. It was signed by 41 English colonists on the ship The Mayflower. The Compact was drafted to prevent dissent amongst Puritans and non-separatist Pilgrims who had landed at Plymouth a couple days before.
  • Petition of Rights

    Petition of Rights
    This is a major document that sets specific liberties. It granted rights, like no free man should be forced to pay taxes, no man can go to jail do to laws of land. Adams, Muhlenberd, Buckeey, and Otis had signed this document.
  • English Bill of Rights

    The Bill of Rights is an act of Parliament of England, declaring the rights and liberties of the Subject. King William and Queen Mary took part in signing the document. It made sure that no Catholics could take throne, the kings and queens had to swear that Protestantism would be the offical religion of England.

  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    The French and Bristish were the two major players in the war. Each side had some Indians mixed in. The major battles were Louisbourg, Fort Frontenac, Montreal, and Quebec. The british were the ultimate winners. This strengthened the colonies by romoving their opponents.
  • Albany Plan of Union

    Albany Plan of Union
    The Albany Plan of Union was suggested by Ben Franklin. It was a plan to place British North American colonies under a more central government. This plan was never accepted but the picture most commonly seen is a political cartoon titled "Join or Die".
  • King George III

    King George III
    King George had changed the relationship with the colornists after the French and Indian War because he had expected them to fund the war and pay for the costs. He had known already that they were low on money and didn't have much but he expected them to also pay for protection from the bristish soldiers.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    Paper, legal documents, licenses, newspapers, and any type of written document was taxed due to the passing of the Stamp Act. The leaders did not like this plan at all. They went to the House of Burgess and proposed the Stamp Act Resolutions. Only some of the Resolutions were accepted but enough to make a difference.

    It was a snowy night, when a group of young men gathered together to protest. There was a total of 5 colonists killed that day. It happened because the government was enforcing a taxation law and citizens didn't approve of it.

    Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea Party took place when a group of Massachusetts Patriots protested the monopoly on American tea importation that had been recently granted.They captured 342 chests of tea in a midnight raid on three tea ships and threw them into the harbor. The British responed by making the Intolerable Acts of 1774.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    This was a result of the Boston Tea Party, when the patriots threw the tea creats into the bay. The British closed all of Boston's ports until the colonists paid for the tea they had destroyed. They also restricted town meetings and the Bristish could house troops in the Colonists homes.
  • First Continental Congress

    The first meeting of the Congress was held in the Carpenter's Hall in Philadelphia. George Washington, Patrick Henry and representitives from others states had atteneded. They had established a plan to repeal the Intolerable Acts.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    The end result of the battle, British had sufferd a great loss, but the Americans see this as a good start to the war. Colonel James Barrett, Colonel John Buttrick, Dr. Joe Warren, John Parker, and William Heath were just a few of the major generals in this battel. Paul Revers job was to ride in front of the armies to warn the towns people to take shelter and a battle was about to occur.
  • Second Continental Congress

    This meeting took place in Philadelphia. Washington and Jefferson had attended this meeting. The Continental Army came about from this meeting and how they would seperate from Enlgand Completely. Which then led to the Constitution and the offical signing of the Declaration of Indenpendence by Adams, Sherman, Franklin, Livingston, and Jefferson.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    With the Revolutionary War going on, the movement for independence from Britain had grown. In mid-June a five-man committee including Jefferson, Adams and Franklin was tasked with drafting a formal statement of intentions. The congress then adopted the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia on July 4th, now known as The Fourth of July, the birth of American Independence.
  • Articles of Confederation

    Articles of Confederation
    The Aritcles of Confederation was the first constitution of the United States. The Articles created a loose central government leaving most of the power with the states governments. John Hanson was the first president to serve full term under the Articles.
  • Start of Constitutional Convention

    The delegates begin to assemble in Philadelphia to confonrt a daunting tast, overthrow the American Government. Only a few delegates had assembled on the original date, May 14th, so the rescheduled for the 25th.
