    Benjamin Jennings, Private, Capt. Thomas Gaddis Company. From September 1776 to January 1777, Gaddis' company was stationed near Beech Bottom, West Virginia, about ten miles north of Fort Henry (West Virginia). While stationed there, he was primarily responsible for keeping communications open to Fort Henry, and for scouting the countryside for hostile Indians.

  • Morgan's Riflemen Established

    Daniel Morgan took command of a specially created corps of light infantry, composed of nearly 500 handpicked Continentals outfitted in hunting shirts and leggings. The troops were from the western counties of Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia. The corps was independent of any state line.
