  • Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act taxed molasses and sugar to help pay for the French and Indian War.

    The Stamp Act required colonists to pay for an official stamp, when they bought paper items.

    Townshend Act
    The Townshend Act placed taxes on glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The Tea Act allowed the British East India to sell tea directly to the colonies. The colonists portested the Tea Act, many colonist merchants were angry because they were cut out of the tea trade.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The British ships had arrived in Boston. Colonists demaned they leave; but they refused. The colonists dressed like natives, snuck onto the ship and dumped 340 chests of tea into the water.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    The Boston Harbor was closed until Boston paid for the ruined tea. Massachusetts's charter was canceled. The governor decided if and when the legilature could meet. A new Quartering Act required colonists to house British soliders.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    The Patriots were desperate for supplies, the leaders in Boston sent Benedict Arnold and a army of 400 men to New York State. they wanted to attack the British at Fort Ticoneroga.The British were trying to think of a plan, but they woke up on June 17 stunned. The colonials had quietly dug in at Breed's HIll, a point looking over Boston. The Redcoats would have to go uphill. There were 3 events.The battle did not happen at Bunker Hill, it was at Breed's Hill. But, the Patriots lost the battle.
  • Dorthester Heights

    Washingtoin moved his army to Dorchester Heights, overlooked Boston from the south. The next morning the British General William Howe and his army retreated after tehy saw the position Washingtion and his army were in.
  • Battle of Long Island.

    Battle of Long Island.
    The Americans were greatly outnumbered. George Washington was defeated by General Howe and George Washington was forced into New Jersey.
  • Battle of Trenton

    Battle of Trenton
    On the Christmas night, 1776, Washington and 2,400 soliers silently rowed across the Delaware River. As the morning came, the men with little supplies and many without shoes, marched through the snow to reach teh enemy camp. The Hessians, that were celebrating the night before for the holidays, were fast asleep when the Patriots came upon them. The battle of Trenton was an important Patriot victory.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    The Patriots had chopped down large trees and dammed rivers to create obstacles. All along the route, the militia swarmed out of nowhere to attack the Redcoats. On October 17,1777, Burgoyne found himself surrounded and was forced to surrender his enire army to General Horatio Gates. The Battle of Saratoga in New York was the turning point in the Revolutionary War. It was the greatest victory yet for the Americans.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    In early 1781 the war for the Patriots was going badly. They were low on money to pay the soliers and buy supplies. But, there plan for the battle was to trap and then circle the Redcoats so they eventually would have to surrender. By mid October there was not much in there way from victory. Finally, the gun shots have stopped and the British surrendered. It was the last major batte of the American Revolution.
