    Royal Proclamation of 1763
    The declared that the colonists in the American colonies were not to settle west of the Appalacian Mountains.

    Imposed a tax on all paper goods from England.
  • Townshend Taxes

    Townshend Taxes
    A series of acts introduced that pushed the colonists even farther toward revolution. Some included the Quartering Act, and the Sugar Act.

    Boston Tea Party
    A group of colonists boarded a British ship dressed as Native Americans, and threw 342 chests full of British tea into the Boston harbor.

    First Continental Congress
    A group of 12 delegates from all colonies except Georgia, that met to discuss the Intolerable acts imposed by England. They were considered to be the first real form of government in the colonies.

    A series of acs passed in response to the Boston Tea Party. Some include the quartering act and the quebec act.

    Battles of Lexington and Concord
    These were the first two battles fought in the Revolutionary War. The first shot was fired at Lexington and is known as "the shot heard around the world".

    A gathering of delegates from all thirteen colonies. It was formed to try and organize the fighting in the war and had begun soon after war had broken out in the colonies.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    Battle between colonists and british troops to secure Breed's Hill, which was adjeacent to Bunker Hill. The colonists were able to hold off the British through two sets of troops, but the third wave from the British outguned the colonists and they took the hill, while sustaining major casualties.

    A document written by Thomas Jefferson that declared independence from Britain. It was the defining moment for the American colonies.

    Decided the fate a powerful british general and his fleet. It also served as a turning point in the war for the the Americans

    Battle at Yorktown
    A deciecive victory for the Americans led by general George Washington. This was the last major battle in the Revolutionary War.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    A treaty between the British and the American colonies. This ended the war and gave freedom to the colonies. It also involved some of the other countries involved.
