    Census records 1830s-1850s
    Censuses were undertaken in Tasmania in 1837, 1838, 1842, 1843, 1848, 1851, and 1857. The returns have been indexed by the name of the head of the household
    Details include if the house was stone, brick or wood and whether it was complete or unfinished. Search for census results in the names indexes.

  • Rates and Assessment Rolls 1858-1951

    Starting in 1858 for Hobart, with other areas soon after, and continuing until 1951 the rates and asessment rolls give you the rateable value of a property, its area, and the names of both the resident and the owner. They are best for Launceston and Hobart where street numbers were given early. But they are also available for most country areas.

  • Building Applications (Hobart) 1919 - 1990

    Each packet usually shows details of building work, address, name of owner, name of builder, fee payment. They may contain a plan of the proposed work .The addresses on the files reflect current street names and numbers but the documents inside may show old street names and numbers. Occasionally a house name is used.

    It can also be used if street names have changed.
