Reading and the Reader I have Become Today

    Circle Time

    K-2nd, students would sit in a circle while the teacher would read a book. The teacher would point out words and ask the class to sound them out.
  • Reading Circles

    3rd Grade -Teachers would place students in groups based on their reading level. Students would take turns reading books.
  • Period: to

    Book Reports

    Students were required to read the assigned book and write up a report based on what they read. This assignment was typically 1 book a week, unless it was a longer book.
  • Books, Audio, & Video

    8th Grade - Students were to read the book with classmates or listen to the audio version of the book as a class and follow along. After going through the book then students watched a movie about the book and take notes on the similarities and differences.

    High School Times

    Students were back to doing book reports, essays, and collages based on the book they read. The book was either one that was found in a library or one that was assigned as literature.
  • Period: to

    English and World Literature

    College courses - In World Literature classes, the professor would expect that we read the material at home and write up a 1 page analysis or summary. We would then discuss the literature in class.
