Like many other toddlers I was read to often. I was read books that had storylines with repetition and patterns. my favorite was five little monkeys!

Kindergarten is filled with reading activities. My most vivid memory of kindergarten is knowing the alphabet in every way possible !

I remember diving into phonics, vowels and syllables heavily in first grade!

In second grade we read Winn Dixie as a class. It was my first experience with reading a chapter book

It is a classic! In third grade we read charlottes webb. We read independently and had class discussions together.

In 4th grade I had my first book report ! I remember this because when I chose the book holes it was shortly after the movie came out.

5th grade was all about writing! I remember my 5th grade teacher expanding on our understanding on the text we read. most reading activities were paired with a writing assignment.

In 6th grade I remember pretty much reading independently for the most part. To kill a mocking bird was one of the books we read. My reading matured a lot.

In 8th grade we read of mice and men . Although we read independently we had many class discussions. I learned more complex reading skills.

High school was all about breaking down the text to better understand it. I also learned how to take notes which prepared me for college courses

After high school but before I enrolled in college courses I read a lot in my down time. all different genres , but my favorite were self help books. I was able to relate and apply what I was reading into my everyday activities.

I am able to apply all of the reading skills i have built over the years and apply them daily at work, in school and in my free time.
