    The British Government continued to refuse to compromise its colonial polices. So, on May 10, 1775, the Second Continental Congress met. By then the Revolution had already begun.
  • Declaration Of Independence Adopted

    Declaration Of Independence Adopted
    Congress had created a committee of five to prepare a proclamation of Independence. The five were Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Roger Sherman, Rovert Livingston, and Thomas Jefferson. They created the Declaration of Independence. On July 4, 1776, they adopted the Declaration of Independence, proclaiming the existence of the new nation.

    The Articles of Confederation created "a firm league of friendship" between the thirteen states. Each state kept its sovereignty, freedom, and independence. The Articles did not immediately go into affect because it still needed to be ratified by all thirteen states.

    Daniel Shays, who had served as an officer in the War for Independence, led an armed uprising that forced several State judges to close their courts. The cause for Shays' Rebellion was the debts that farmers were in was causing farmers to lose their land.

    The states sent representatives to Philadelphia to build a new government to replace the Articles of Confederation.

    Constitution Approved
    After making compromises with the Virginia Plan and the New Jersey Plan, the constitution was formed. The convention approved the Constitution on September 17, 1787.
