    The Project Gemini Timeline

  • The Launch of Gemini 1

    The Launch of Gemini 1
Gemini 1 was the first launch of the 12 Gemini spacecraft launches. Gemini 1 was not manned by any astronauts. The goal: To test of the Titan-II launch vehicle.
  • The Launch of Gemini 2

    The Launch of Gemini 2
This was the second uncrewed Gemini test mission, the objective was to test the heat sheilds on the spacecraft, and to see if it can survive the maximum heat level while going into orbit.
  • The Launch of Gemini 3

    The Launch of Gemini 3
This was the first Manned Gemini mission out of the 12. The purpose was to test the new, maneuverable Gemini spacecraft.
  • The Launch of Gemini 4

    The Launch of Gemini 4
Gemini 4 was the second crewed mission of the Gemini series and carried James McDivitt and Edward White on a 4-day, 62-orbit, 98-hr flight from June 3 to June 7, 1965. The mission included the first American spacewalk. The objective of the mission was to test the performance of the astronauts and capsule and to evaluate work procedures, schedules, and flight planning for an extended length of time in space.
  • The Launch of Gemini 5

    The Launch of Gemini 5
Gemini 5, carrying astronauts Gordon Cooper and Charles "Pete" Conrad was the third crewed Earth-orbiting spacecraft of the Gemini series. The flight was designed to last eight days. The major objectives of this mission were to demonstrate a long-duration crewed flight, evaluate the effects of long periods of weightlessness on the crew, and test numerous capabilities and maneuvers
  • The Launch of Gemini 6

    The Launch of Gemini 6
Gemini 6 was planned to be the third manned earth orbiting spacecraft of the Gemini series. Its primary mission involved rendezvous with a Gemini-Agena target vehicle.
  • The Launch of Gemini 7

    The Launch of Gemini 7
Gemini 7 was the fourth crewed Earth-orbiting spacecraft of the Gemini series, having been launched before Gemini 6A. It carried astronauts Frank Borman and Jim Lovell on the 14 day mission.
  • The Launch of Gemini 6A

    The Launch of Gemini 6A
Gemini 6A was the fifth crewed Earth-orbiting spacecraft of the Gemini series, having been launched after Gemini 7, with the intent of making rendezvous with Gemini 7 in Earth orbit. The astronauts on the 26 hour mission were Walter Schirra and Thomas Stafford. The mission priorities were to demonstrate on-time launch procedures, closed-loop rendezvous capabilities, and stationkeeping techniques with Gemini 7.
  • The Launch of Gemini 8

    The Launch of Gemini 8
Gemini 8 was the sixth crewed Earth-orbiting spacecraft of the Gemini series, carrying astronauts Neil Armstrong and David Scott. The primary mission objectives were to perform rendezvous and four docking tests with the Agena target vehicle and to execute an ExtraVehicular Activity (EVA) experiment.
  • The Launch of Gemini 9

    The Launch of Gemini 9
Gemini 9A was the seventh crewed Earth-orbiting spacecraft of the Gemini series. It carried astronauts Tom Stafford and Gene Cernan. Primary mission objectives were to demonstrate (1) rendezvous techniques and docking with a target vehicle to simulate manuevers to be carried out on future Apollo missions, (2) an ExtraVehicular Activity (EVA) spacewalk to test the Astronaut Maneuvering Unit (AMU), and (3) precision landing capability.
  • There are 3 missions left, but we won't display them
