  • Sherman anti-trust act became a law

    First measure passed by the U.S. Congress to prohibit trusts. Several states had passed similar laws, but they were limited to intrastate businesses. The Sherman Antitrust Act was based on the constitutional power of Congress to regulate interstate commerce.

  • Bureau Of Mines

    First created in 1896, was created over the concern of the waste of human and natural resources which did not act until a huge coal loss.
  • Coal Strike

    In 1902 there was a strike by the United Mine Workers of America in the anthracite coalfields of eastern Pennsylvania. Miners struck for higher wages, shorter workdays and the recognition of their union. The strike threatened to shut down the winter fuel supply to major American cities. There work conditions were horrible for such little pay.
  • Newlands Reclamation Act

    authorized the federal government to commission water diversion, retention and transmission projects in arid lands, particularly in the far west in 1902.
  • United States Forest Service

    In 1876 congress created the office of Special Agent in the U.S. Department of Agriculture to assess the quality and conditions of forests in the United States. In 1881 the Department expanded the office into the Division of Forestry. But offically passed in 1905 by President Roosevelt.
  • Food and Drug Administration

    In 1906 the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) was and is responsible for protecting our health by ensuring the safety, efficacy, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, and medical devices; and by ensuring the safety of our nation's food supply, cosmetics, and products that emit radiation. Trying to protect us from any harmful chemicals , foods and or drugs.
  • Meat Inspection Act

    Around the same time as the food and drug administration came out to protect our heath so came out the (FMIA) Federal Meat Inspection. It was a crime to sell misbrand meat, it had to ensure the meats were slaughtered and sanitary.
  • Childrens Bureau

    They wanted to improve lifes of childrens and families due to a lot of social issues such as
    Infant and maternal death
    Child labor
    Orphanages
    Child health and recreation
    Delinquency and juvenile courts
    Family economic security
    Abused and neglected children
    Foster care
  • System Of National Parks

    President Woodrow Wilson signed the act creating the National Park Service in 1916, a new federal bureau in the Department of the Interior responsible for protecting the 35 national parks and monuments then managed by the department and those yet to be established.
  • Adamson act

    in 1916, the Adamson act was a federal law passed during the progressive movement. Which meant 8 hour work days for railroad workers
