    -Veterans' Readjustment Benefits Act of 1966
    -Veterans were entitled to one month of educational assistance for each month of service (for veterans who served on active duty for more than 180 consecutive days)
    -first time veterans were able to receieve benefits while still serving
    -max benefit: $100/month

    -first to require participants to contribute to an education fund during their period of service (the participants had to agree to monthly reductions of $25-$100/month)
    -max benefit: $300/month

    -originally called the All-Volunteer Force Educational Assistance Program
    -Department of Defense Authorization Act
    -avaliable to those who entered active duty after June 30, 1985
    -participants have their pay reduced by $100/month for 12 months
    -max benefit: $1101/month
