-first to require participants to contribute to an education fund during their period of service (the participants had to agree to monthly reductions of $25-$100/month)

Montgomery GI Bill-Active Duty (MGIB-AD)
-originally called the All-Volunteer Force Educational Assistance Program
-Department of Defense Authorization Act
-avaliable to those who entered active duty after June 30, 1985
-participants have their pay reduced by $100/month for 12 months
-max benefit: $1101/month -
