Germany, Italy, and Japan signed an official agreement called the tripartite pact. This was to keep America out of the war because this means that if you attack one country then you attack all of the axis powers opening a two front war. This brought us closer to war because we didn't want italy, germany, and japan all join together. -
The relection of Roosevelt for the third time
Roosevelt ran against Wendell Willkie for a third terma dn was relected because he was the one that was more well known. They also thought that since roosevelt led us out of the great depression then he will be a good leader through the war that could be put on us. it put us closer to war because it made roosevelt the leador again which could make germany mad. -
The lend-lease act
President Roosevelt made this act because it said that it would let the american people send weapons to the allied powers. Some americans didn't like the idea because they thought that it would bring us into the war, but most people thought it was a good idea because this way they won't bring the war over to america. This brought us closer to war because we were lending weapons to one of the sides and not the other. -
hitler broke the treaty with russia
Hitler went against his agreement with stalin and invaded the soviet union. In order to save the country Roosevelt started sending lend-lease supplies to the soviet union. Most americans didn't like the idea that we were sending supplies but Roosevelt agreed with Churchill and siad that Hitler invaded hell. This brought us closer to the war because it made us work against the axis powers even more and this most likely made Hitler want to invade us. -
signing of the atlantic charter
roosevelt and winten churchill met aboard the ship USS Agusta to discuss the outcome of the war. There they signed the atlantic charter which was a declaration of war/ aims and goals which included collective security, disarmament, self-determination, economic cooperation, and freedom of the seas. Thsi brought us closer to war because we are supposed to be nutral but then we go and talk to churchill about the end of the war. -
German attacked the U.S. destroyer Greer
German u-boats took down the U.S. destroyer Greer. This made Roosevelt order the navy to take action. He said "when you see a rattlesnake poised to strike ," the president explained, " you crush him". He then said the German submarines on sight. Just days later German U.S. destroyer Reuben James killing 100 sailors. This brought us closer to war because it infuriated america and made us want revenge against Hitler. -
pearl harbor
The japanize attacked the U.S. fort of pearl harbor on hawii. Japanize attacked us because we were trying to make peace talks with them. The japanese killed more then 2,403 americans in less then two hours. They also injured 1178 more people. The reaction to this attack was that America had to build a new navy before they could go to war. This brought us to war because it killed so many of our men, and it was an unprovoked attack.
