    MRT Project Launched Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak lauched the Klang Valley MY Rapid Transit (MRT) project which is to be completed in 2016.
    With 31 stops altogether, 51km Sungai Buloh-Kajang line was the answer to the public's need for an efficient public transport system, and act as a catalyst for the country's economic growth, said the Prime Minister.

    Shop owners who received land acquisition from SPAD were upset and brought up the issue at the National Economic Council meeting.
    According to Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, SPAD agreed to consider the possibility of a realignment to the proposed MRT line, to ensure that properties will not be affected by the project.

    MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek announced that 31 shop houses in Chinatown will not be torned down due to the MRT project. However, the land underneath Jalan Sultan is still aquired by the Government for MRT tunneling works. Occupants will be required to move out until the tunneling works are completed for safety purposes.

    Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said he would meet Prasarana Negara Berhad to lobby for a realignment of the MRT route to avoid the need to acquire properties in Jalan Sultan.
    He said the alternative route would go along Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock and there would be no need to tear down any historic building.

He added, the fact that a realignment concession was made to save a VIP’s bungalow from being affected by the tunnel route, the same can be done for Jalan Sultan.
