On August 30 1838 General Tipton with 100 soldiers traveled to Twin Lake Villages.

In September of 1838 the Potawatomi Indians were forced to leave their own homeland, which was Plymouth, Indiana. They marched 660 miles by feet to what is now present-day Osawatomie, Kansas.

On September 4, 1838 the tribe left and marched at gunpoint. During the 2 month journey around 42 members of the tribe had died along their journey from typhoid fever.

When they arrived Osawatomie, Kansas there were only 756 tribe members left afterwards.
