  • 12 months: JOINT ATTENTION

    12 months: JOINT ATTENTION
    Max is regularly demonstrating joint attention. Joint attention is when an infant directs their attention to what people around them are paying attention to, not necesaarily the most stimulating sensation. (pg153) They also learn new words by observing what there important people are doing. The other day at the park throwing the ball for our dog. I would say "good boy" and "drop". Max paid attention & kept trying to say "good" .

    5 years: ANIMISM
    MAx demostrated ANIMISM with his toy cars telling me they were tired and needed to take a nap with him. Animism is when human thoughts and feelings are applied to inannimate objects. (pg 242) Animism is one of Piaget's preoperational stages that occue from age 2-7.

    9 years: CONSERVATION
    Today I gave Max and his sister each a glass of juice. I gave his sster the shorter glass and max the taller glass. Both were 8 0z glasses. Max told his sister to calm down it was the same amount. Max was showing the concrete operation of conservation that occurs between 7-11years. Conservation is when a child realizes that the same amount or volume of liquid or matter can exist in different shapes.

    13 years: IMAGINARY AUDIENCE
    MAx demonstrated imaginary audience when he worried that everyone could see the pimple on his chin even though it was so small it was barely visable. Imaginary audience is a result of adolescents limited ability to distingish between how they see themselves and how others might see them. (359) This is very common in adolescents but doesnt just go away with age.

    18 years; DUALISTIC THINKING
    I asked MAX if he thought it was wrong for someone to steal food if they were homeless and hungry. MAx said ti was wrong. Max is demonstrating dualisting thinking which is when, regardless of the situation, indiviulas only see things in terms of black and white, right or wrong. This type of judgement is typical from adolescents up until about 20 years of age according to a theory by William Perry. (pg 417)
  • Dialectical Thought

    Dialectical Thought
    Max is in his final year of college. Between school, work and volunteer experiences he had lots of life experienes that have changed how he sees the world. The other day he demonstrated dialectical thought pg when he had to decide if he should take an unpaid internship doing work he loved or take a paid position doing something he disliked. Dialectical thought (pg 417) is a cognition development occuring in emerging adulthood enabling someone to see both views and neither wrong or right.
  • INTIMACY VS ISOLATION

    INTIMACY VS ISOLATION
    After several years of dating, MAx got married! According to Ericksons theory of the life span intimacy verses isolation (pg 473) is what occurs when someone is grounded and knows who they are and what they want and therefor are enabled to have a successful relationship. Max wants to have a long lasting relationship so after some pre-marriage counseling at our church as a couple they are movng forward with realistic expectations, shared interests, roles, and power. (pg 482)
  • STABILIZATION: development of occupational goals

    STABILIZATION: development of occupational goals
    After taking a few internships in college, Max took a job at a firm after graduating. He has already received a small pay raise and increased job responsibilitis because he has stayed with the company and gained a few years experience to be able to train the new employees. Max is exhibiting STABILIZATION (pg493) a [eriod of occupational development according to Donald Super. As Max gains more experience he will move to Consolidation a stage of occupational devleopment of gaining expertise.
  • EXPERTISE

    EXPERTISE
    MAx is now the regional manager at his firm. He is only one step away from being the top dog at work. He knows he want to be the top before he retires. He has wearned this position becuase of years of experience in his field. He has held almost every position and has been recognized for his creative and efficient problem solving. He is at the peak of expertise. (Pg 519) He knows if he stays on track he will get the promotion he wants before he reitres.
  • LIFE REVIEW

    LIFE REVIEW
    Max has lived a healthy and productive and loving life. Max looks back o his life and accepts all the good moments as wells as the challenging moments. He was glad he took a few extra years to officially retire so he ould accomplish his goal of being top dog at the firm. It also allowed him to have a more financially comfortable retirement to get the RV and yearly european cruises he ad his wife always wanted. Looking back on his life is what Robert Butler calls, the LIfe Review. (pg 622)
