  • The Royal Proclamation

    The Royal Proclamation
    The British Parliament made the proclamation in order to prohibit white settlers from getting land that was designated as Indian Country. As well as prohibiting the American colonists from moving west.This Proclamation helped with the separation of the United States from Britain.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    This tax required the colonists to pay taxes on any and every printed paper. Colonists disliked the fact that the government was taxing them without representation in the British Parliament. As a result the colonists had no say in the law and were taxed without their consent.
  • The Sons of Liberty

    The Sons of Liberty
    This was a secret political group formed in the American colonies that protested against the Stamp Act and Tea Act. They harassed those who worked for the British Government and were tax collectors.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    This was a protest by the American colonists against the British Government's Tea Act. As a result , several members from the Sons of Liberty disguised themselves as Native Americans and dumped 342 chests of tea into the ocean in the Boston Harbor.

  • Continental Congress

    Continental Congress
    This was the governing body in which the colonial governments joined to go against the British rule. During the first meeting, they discussed about the boycotting of British goods. The congress lasted up to 1789.
  • The Olive Branch Petition

    The Olive Branch Petition
    The petition was issued by the Second Continental Congress, in which was the last attempt to resolve conflict and avoid war between Britain and the 13 colonies. Unfortunately, the King rejected to see the petition in which resulted in war.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    This was signed by Ben Franklin, John Adams, Robert Livingston, Rob Sherman and Thomas Jefferson. This declaration led to the independence of the 13 colonies from the British government.
  • Articles of Confederation

    Articles of Confederation
    This was the first Constitution written for the United States and were rules in which all of the 13 original states could agree on.This allowed the congress to raise and army and be able to create laws and print money.
  • The Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris
    This was the official peace treaty between the United States and Britain that ended the American Revolutionary War. The three important Americans that went to negotiate this was John Adams, Ben Franklin and John Jay.
  • The Constitution

    The Constitution
    This replaced the Articles of Confederation and gave the United States a new legal system and increased the federal authority, yet it still protected the basic rights of the citizens.
  • George Washington's Presidency

    George Washington's Presidency
    He was the first president of the United States to take oath under the U.S Constitution. During his presidency lots of growth within the government occurred. The presidential cabinet was created. As well as the creation of political parties and growth within the supreme court.
  • Pickney's Treaty with Spain

    Pickney's Treaty with Spain
    This was a treaty between the United States and Spain that would set aside any conflicts with land ownership. The United States was given the rights to ships to navgate freely in the Mississippi River.
