    Poliomyelitis is an infectious disease caused by polio virus. It can cause flu-like symptoms or paralysis.

  • Polio virus identified

    In 1908 the Polio virus was identified after its effects were discovered in 1905

  • Multiple Polios proposed

    After Frank M. Burnet and Macnamara ran studies on monkeys, there research showed signs of other polio viruses.

  • Growing

    The disease grows more into the nervous system of the body.

  • Proof

    Bodian proves thew earlier theory that there are multiple polios. He finds three polio viruses.

  • Spreading

    The disease starts spreading into the body's digestive system.

  • Elimination in the Americas

    After global eradication initiative in 1988, polio was declared eliminated from the Americas.
